a pantry finished, mostly

this weekend was a wonderful one. friday night spent with friends. saturday spent putting up shelves, thrift shopping, and playing super mario bros. on the wii. sunday spent organizing the pantry, trying to avoid getting sick, and more playing of super mario bros. on the wii.

martha stewart obviously had a big role in pantry organization. she was so focused she couldn’t find time to look at the camera.

shelves going up.

and for the big reveal …

drum roll ….

when you come around the corner from the kitchen you first see this.

look to the left and you see this. (thrift store find cork board, spray painted chocolate brown to coordinate with some of the storage bins in the pantry. notepad that will help keep track of what we need. i have a few other surprises for the cork board that aren’t quite ready.)

all together now. groupings are (top shelf) tomato sauce, peaches, peach pie filling, pickles. (second shelf) pizza sauce, salsa, walnut maple syrup, peach butter, peach jam, pickles. then soups, veggies, and cooking soups. (third shelf) breakfast items. inside the storage bin is spice envelopes/packets. canned fruit. snack bars. (fourth shelf) juices, condiments, stocks, dried beans. (fifth shelf) canning supplies (i.e. pectin, tools) (bottom shelf) paper party supplies and then a basket with beekeeping tools.

pressure cooker and canning water pot at the top. snack bars all together in a bin to avoid all the boxes taking up space.

we ate well this weekend. i guess cleaning out the kitchen makes you want to stay home and cook. homemade fettuccine alfredo with fresh baked bread. homemade pizza with mozzarella and fresh, garden grown tomatoes. simple. delicious. i start calorie counting wednesday. i gave myself august off from anything that i didn’t want to do. no gym. no running in the heat. no calorie counting. if i wanted ice cream, i had ice cream. september is right around the corner. i am both equally dreading and excited. (funny thing, at my doctor appointment last week i had lost 6 lbs. she was like, oh what are you doing. hmmm i replied eating ice cream whenever i want.)

i am so happy with the way the pantry turned out. there is a place for everything and it coordinates well with the wall pantry i have in the kitchen. i love organization. hopefully this will lend itself to less waste and more meals cooked at home!

what do you all think?
