week of smoothies

i fear this blog will slowly become less about our simple life and more about my utter love for my vitamix.  ode to the blender.  yes, i have already been thinking of names for a new blog.  it is what i do before i fall asleep each night.  doesn’t everyone?

probably my favorite so far. mango delight. (i made that up!)
1 cup almond unsweetened, vanilla milk
1 large handful of spinach
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 banana

this one was a bit more difficult to get down.  i have become good with drinking green, but “brown” threw me.  apparently green spinach and red strawberries makes a disgusting brown.  not pretty.  but tasty.  the cucumber added the sweetness.

sweet greens smoothie:
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup cucumber, peeled and chopped
1 cup spinach
1 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries

29 calories per cup.  this recipe makes 5 cups.

this one had the most interesting consistency.  but once i adjusted, it was actually yummy.  and the most filling.

all green smoothie:
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1 1/2 cups grapes
1/4 bartlett pear
1/4 – 1/2 avocado, pitted and peeled
1 broccoli floret
1/2 cup spinach
1 cup ice cubes

124 calories per 1 cup. recipe makes 3 cups.

after a few days of green smoothies, i wanted something refreshing and fun.  i went for this and was so happy i did!

kiwi watermelon smoothie:
1 1/2 cups peeled, diced watermelon
1 kiwi, peeled
1 date, pitted
1 cup ice cubes

95 calories per 1 cup.  recipe makes 2 1/4 cups.

i don’t think we have ever bought as much produce as we have since the vitamix arrived.  it is a good feeling when at the grocery store and i am finished with my list without actually leaving the dairy and produce sections.
