date night with my soul mate

craft soul mate that is.

i have seen several friends take these “wine & design” classes and i have been just waiting for my chance.  of course, i could sign up for any class but i was waiting for a living social or groupon coupon.  i am a little obsessed and my patience played out.  laura, my craft soul mate, and i jumped and bought a living social coupon for our local wine and design.

then began the task of finding a painting we both liked and wanted to paint, on a day that both our schedules were clear.  laura’s first suggestion was a painting of the unc old well.  hmmm, no ma’am.  this ncsu grad will have none of that.  fast forward a couple months.  last night was the night.

needless to say we were a bit excited.  we were sure to be embarking on our own masterpieces.  those of you not familiar with the wine and design concept, you pick a painting you want to paint.  bring a bottle of wine and snacks along with a couple of friends.  then your instructor walks you through the steps of your painting.  it is basically one small step above a paint by number.

we started with the following canvas.  important thing to note, when the instructor tells you to paint either around or lightly on top of the pencil lines so you can still see, don’t paint on top of the pencil lines so you can not see.

laura working her skills.

and the finished product.  my masterpiece next to the instructors.  i feel fairly confident in the following:

1) this was a lot of fun and i would like to do another one.  any local peeps interested in joining me?  they have a “date night” class where you and your partner paint picasso style portraits of each other. i am sure this needs to happen.

2) i am definitely not a painter. i will stick to pottery and sewing.

at the end of the night we had a few good memories, two “paintings”, and plenty of laughs. sadly it was too late for frozen yogurt. so this just means another date with my lady friend :)

I know you don't "know" me but I've commented several times. I'm looking to expand my social circle so I'd love to do this.
